February 22 Not much change for me, but Randy is doing great!I haven't written in here for quite awhile, pure laziness I guess. I haven't been lazy with my workouts though, I do not miss a day, and my workouts last at least an hour, usually more than that. Randy has started walking before work, at the mall. It shows, he is down to 211! I am stuck at 167, but have switched my workouts to try and get it going again. Food has really been my problem. I need to get back the willpower that took me from 216 to where I am now! I know that I can do it! It is supposed to be 35 degrees here on Sunday, I am so getting outside to walk. It's one of my favorite things to do for exercise.
My kids have started to exercise with me, which is great. I like to see how Randy and I can set a good example for them. I don't want my daughter to end up like me, worrying about her weight and yo-yoing most of her life.
So congratulations to my hubby for his progress, and wish me luck with mine! January 31 Bad Food Day! Bad, Bad!I'm having a horrible day today, cravings for sweets are killing me! I had 2 cookies and ice cream with my son, who is home sick from school. Usually, he nags me about eating poorly, but he's too sick to say anything today. I'm not going to let it ruin the whole day, the rest of the day will be healthy foods. I'm going to the store in a little while to get my sweet tooth staples for those days like today: sugar free jello and lite cool whip, special k bars, yogurt, fruit. I will tell my other children to take Sky's job of naggging me today. Just writng in this blog is giving me some willpower.
As far as the rest of my healthy lifestyle, I have done no less than 5 miles on the treadmill all week. I like it. I keep redoing my mp3 player with lots of good songs. My favorite band right now is Reel Big Fish. (ska music, really good and sometimes funny.) Randy is probably getting tons of exercise on his trip. I hope that he's not drinking too much though, that kind of messes up the exercise. It's hard to be a team on this, we don't get a lot of time together. After 20 years of marriage, I still miss him when he's gone. Only a few more days. January 28 Slow but sureThings are going for me. Little by little, I'm going to get it off. Randy hasn't even weighed in this week. He's eating healthy though, at least at home. His snowmobiling trip is this week, so that will either be a challange for him, or a very good thing. He'll probably be too tired to eat much! But the beer...well, between that and Superbowl Sunday, it will be a huge challange. I have had a great week for exercise. My treadmill and I get along very well. I just need to make myself use my weights, and my bands, and my workout books! I do much better when I can afford to go to the gym. I really took the gym for granted when I worked at one, free membership! And plenty of friends for support too.
Down one pound this week, to 167. One or two pounds a week, slow but sure and I'll keep it off. January 22 I hate the scale! At least today I do. Neither one o us lost any weight this week. We did drink beer while watching the Packers play. Phooey! Anyway, this just makes me want to try harder. I know that I have been doing great on exercise. I did almost 500 minutes of cardio, and worked out on our weight machine this past week. This is not counting other activities like bowling league, shoveling snow, housecleaning, etc. It is just very hard not to see the scale move. I want this to be a lifestyle change, I do not want us to go on any kind of crash diet. It has to fit into real life. I'm using tips from The Biggest Loser, and from Sparkpeople.com. Randy is going on his trip soon, so I hope that he has a plan for not overeating and over drinking. I know that they drink quite a bit when him and his buddies get together. After they are done riding I hope. I'm off to go to the store, and bank. Then it's out in the cold to get the snow shoveled. I'd rather be at work than out there in the cold. At least it's good exercise! January 16 Not holding on when running on the treadmill! That really surprised me when watching The Biggest Loser last night. I would think that by this time the contestants would know better than to try to hold on while on the treadmill. I don't like to see anyone voted off, but I would have voted for them too.
I did 5 miles on the treadmill today, and four miles yesterday. I'm trying to at least get a sixteen minute mile when I'm on.
I measured today, so here they are:
chest: 36
waist: 31.5
stomach 33.5
legs 21.5
Randy will have to get his done when I nag him to do them.
We have a big party coming up. Tons to drink and eat. It's going to be a challange. They are having only heavy appetizers and desserts. I'm going to convince myself that whatever fruit they have is a good enough treat! I've been working so hard on exercise, but I need to keep trying harder on the diet side of it.
As far as the hubby, I have no idea what he is eating at work, but I do know that he is hardly eating at home. By the time he gets home from work, he's so tired that he can barely eat! He has a one hour commute each way, and he works ten to twelve hour days! January 13 A great weekend for exerciseWhat a great weekend for football and for exercise. I really pushed myself hard and did 4 miles on the treadmill both Saturday and Sunday. Randy didn't do much, but he's still recovering from his surgery. I really wish that he'd at least do a little on the treadmill. I know that he'll work out at work this week. My jeans felt looser today, but I have know idea what the scale will say about that. We need to measure to get a better picture of how we are doing. I do know that Randy's stomach has come down a lot since last year. Living is Wisconsin is hard sometimes, all of that beer and cheese! Go Packers! January 11 weigh ins and stuffOur weekly weigh in:
Randy is 214
Carol is 169
I lost a pound, Randy lost .4 of a pound. I know that he had some business lunches last week, with pizza. I did pretty good this week. I'm trying to keep my vow not to drink at bowling. We are going to a bar to watch the Packers game on Saturday, free food and cheap beer, what a temptation. I suppose that I can have a couple of beers if I plan calories in for them. I'm very proud that I have not missed a day of exercise this month so far. I just got word that I have a new job, so any work clothes that I buy have to be size 12! I will not go up a size! It's finally to the point where I don't automatically go to the plus size department in the store for clothes.
Next blog I think I'll put down measurements. Sometimes that's a better judge than the scale. January 08 No more double chins!I hate getting older, I don't like it when my face shows a double chin the minute I put a pound on. I have a goal of no more double chin, along with the goal of firming up the rest of me too. I had a great workout today, I really challanged myself to add speed and incline onto the treadmill. Randy worked out at work yesterday, but he's still not up to speed because of his operation. He's getting ready for a big snowmobile trip in a couple of weeks. I won't have any control over what he eats, but he seems to be doing fine so far. I have weigh in tomorrow morning. I'm hoping that I've lost one or two pounds. The weigh ins on The Biggest Loser sure were dissappointing tonight. I know that for the average person, a weight loss of 2 pounds a week is a good way to go. So the calorie goal for me will be about 1200-1400 a day. Randy's is a little more. January 05 Saturday, grocery shoppingI'm heading to the grocery store to stock up for the week. Randy is down another pound, he's doing great! I'm going to follow som of the list from Sparkpeople.com this week, to see how well I do on that. I don't usually follow the plan from the site, I usually do my own. It might not hurt to try to follow it if it doesn't cost too much. I did 3 miles on the treadmill yesterday, it felt great! I raised the incline higher than normal too! When I watch the Biggest Loser, I wonder what their treadmills are set at. I'm fairly healthy, but I don't run on the treadmill for a long time in a row. I usually do walking, then running, etc. It seems to work okay, I sweat tons, and my heart rate stays where it's supposed to be. I miss going to a health club, but we can't afford it right now, and it's too far to drive. Back when I used to have a membership, I would get up way early on weekends and drive to go work out. Even in the winter! I like the atmosphere in a health club. Randy is going to show me how to use our weight machine later today, and I'll get on the treadmill again. By weigh in day, I hope to be down a couple of pounds! January 03 Weight loss and exerciseRandy weighed in this morning, he's lost a pound. I only weigh in once a week usually, so I'm waiting. I am doing 3 miles on the treadmill today, and bowling tonight. It's going to be hard not having a few beers at bowling, but it's just empty calories. Somebody needs to get all of the leftover holiday goodies out of this house! I've hidden them all, but told my teen that him and his friends can eat them all up! January 02 Trying to Lose Weight TogetherI've been struggling for many years to keep my weight down. I've yo-yo'd for so many years. A couple of years ago, severe foot problems caused me to finally do something about it. I lost almost 60 pounds, but now I feel the yo-yo going up again. I need to get a handle on it now. Randy has never really had a problem with his weight, but since we are both in our forties now, he knows that he can't eat like he did when he was twenty. Also, I can see some of the bad eating habits that our kids have. We need to change as a couple, and as a family.
My starting weight is 170, with a bmi of 25.8. I'm back in the overweight catagory. Last March, I had my weight down to 158!
Randy is starting at 214, with a bmi of 29. He has lost ten pounds recently, and told me that he is at his goal weight already! He is still in the overweight catagory.
My goal weight is 150, and Randy's is 200.
Now the question is: How are we going to do this as a couple? I'm used to doing this by myself, we'll see how it goes.
Next blog: before pictures! (not looking forward to that!) |
